Best Lawyers names Marielle Hazen Law Group Attorney of the Year for Central Pennsylvania
Recently, Best Lawyers released its list of “Attorneys of the Year” for the Harrisburg area. And not surprisingly for those who know her, Attorney Marielle Hazen of the Hazen Law Group has been named as Central Pennsylvania’s Elder Law Attorney of the Year.
Best Lawyers is a peer-review guide for the legal profession that recognizes the top attorneys in more than 70 countries around the world. The organization bestows the title of Attorney of the Year to just one attorney per practice area in each geographical jurisdiction. Lawyers are nominated for the title by fellow attorneys before undergoing a thorough peer-review process. The responses are then analyzed, the nominee’s eligibility checked, and finally, the results are released. The organization released its first list of top attorneys in 1983 and has been a respected source of attorney recognition since.
Attorney Hazen has served the legal needs of older adults and their families since 1992. During that time, she has earned the distinction of being one of just 35 attorneys in Pennsylvania to be certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation. Hazen is a former President and one of the founding members of the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys (PAELA), as well as a past Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Marielle Hazen’s contributions to the areas of elder law and special needs planning are significant. For example, Hazen is actively involved in policy work through the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the Special Needs Alliance, a national nonprofit organization of attorneys dedicated to disability and public benefits law. As a respected Pennsylvania elder law attorney, Hazen frequently is on the panel for continuing legal education courses. She has also been asked to speak as a guest lecturer at Temple University graduate program in Social Work, the Penn State graduate program in Public Health Administration, the Penn State Dickinson School of Law, Weidner University School of Law and the Harrisburg Area Community College.
